Circulation of works of art

Secretary of Culture of the Nation, Argentina,
30 May 2016, Argentina

The Ministry of Culture has reduced the length of time it takes to obtain export and import licenses for works of art and cultural property, to just 24 hours.  Before, the process could last up to 10 days, as stipulated by law 24.633.

The streamlining took place thanks to the launch of a new register of internal proceedings of the National Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Sites and as a way to improve service to citizens.

The management of the export license or import franchise is the tool through which exporters are exempt from the payment of duties and taxes, or provide exemptions for the import of cultural property.

The aim is to encourage the artistic and cultural exchange between the countries and the circulation of works by contemporary Argentian artists. At the same time, artists can exert public control over goods moving to prevent the erosion of our cultural heritage and protect the heritage.

In 2015, about 21 thousand goods were exported, thanks to this system. And the monthly average was 180 extended licenses.
